■ D1 student Mr. Sakata has been selected as a Special Research Fellow (DC1) for FY 2017 by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science!!
The JSPS Fellowship is a highly competitive program that selects only the most talented and promising students nationwide from universities and research institutions.
Those selected are awarded a research grant (salary) and supplementary research funding. This outcome reflects the high level of Mr. Sakata's abilities, the appeal of his research, and his promising potential.
This is also a significant step forward for the laboratory. Congratulations!!!!

■ The Robotics Seminar organized by the Business Planning Committee of the Robotics Society of Japan, of which Shima serves as a member, was held.
Guest lecturers were invited from the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas, "Understanding and Controlling Mechanisms of Body Representation in the Brain," in which Shima participates as a public offering group member.
It was a great success, and both lab students and I learned a lot.
Many thanks to the cooperating lecturers!

■ International student Prasetia Utama Putra and B3 student Yoshida joined the lab.
Additionally, M2 student Sato Ritsu withdrew from the program. Although it is unfortunate, we wish him success in his future endeavors.
Sakata has advanced to the doctoral course. For the fall semester of 2016, our team now comprises 2 staff members, 1 doctoral course student, 8 master's students, 3 undergraduate research students, and 5 research students, making a total of 19 members.
Will we exceed 20 members next semester...?

■ M2 student Sakata completed her master's program early!

Sakata, a second-generation Shima Lab member, completed the master's program in 1.5 years due to excellent academic performance.
Additionally, she was recognized by the Graduate School of Engineering for her achievements, and her presentation at AROB2016 in January received the Student Paper Award.
These accomplishments are the result of her hard work. Congratulations!
From October, Sakata will join the doctoral course (the first for our lab).
We look forward to her further success!
Wong also joined us for the celebratory party.

■ We had the graduate school mid-term presentations and seminar.
With nearly 70 presentations spanning two days from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, it was exhausting even just listening towards the end.
Additionally, M2 student Ms. Sakata had her master's thesis review session on the same day.
She received valuable suggestions from the professors, which were also a great learning experience for me.
